Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Wilmington, Delaware.
Overview
The Mechanical Technician is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on building mechanical and electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and safety. This role involves working during after-hours shifts, including weekends and holidays, to support response efforts during electrical outages.
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily inspections of building mechanical and electrical systems, including lighting, chilled and heating water, rooftops, compressors, boilers, HVAC controls, and fire alarm systems
- Perform maintenance and repairs, troubleshoot issues, and ensure systems operate efficiently
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to quality standards
- Maintain accurate documentation of system performance and inspections
- Manage preventative maintenance for life safety equipment and ensure compliance with safety standards
- Respond to electrical outages by executing shutdown procedures and operating designated breakers
- Support light administrative tasks such as equipment organization and housekeeping
- Work independently and collaborate with contractors to resolve issues promptly
- Provide excellent tenant relations through professional communication and responsive service
- Work at heights and use hand tools as required for maintenance and repairs
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of practical experience with strong knowledge of HVAC control systems
- Demonstrated ability to work with hand tools and at heights safely
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and resolve building issues promptly
- Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain positive tenant interactions
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Resourceful team player with a collaborative problem-solving approach
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional certification in Refrigeration or Electrical Trade
- Experience with building management systems and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Keen knowledge of applicable building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards
- Experience working in commercial or multi-tenant facilities
