Talascend is currently seeking a Chief Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Goodyear, Arizona.

Overview

The chief engineer is responsible for the operational management and daily leadership of the engineering team, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment. This role requires overseeing maintenance, safety compliance, and supervising staff to maintain high performance and asset value.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other mechanical systems, including reviewing logs and performing preventive maintenance as needed.
  • Oversee repair and preventive maintenance schedules for essential building systems.
  • Ensure availability of tools and supplies, prepare purchase requests, and manage inventory levels.
  • Supervise contractors working within the building, ensuring compliance and safety.
  • Identify and address safety hazards, implement safety training, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain and update infrastructure documentation, including drawings and compliance records.
  • Supervise and manage engineers and maintenance staff, including hiring, training, and development.
  • Provide training to operational staff on maintenance, safety procedures, and troubleshooting.
  • Execute equipment inspection and monitoring programs, define maintenance best practices, and improve operational uptime.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of facility-related work experience, including customer service, leadership, and supervision
  • Managerial experience required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance processes and construction planning
  • Exposure to HVAC, fluid handling, mechanical and electrical systems
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office and CMMS systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven record of customer service
  • Certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs (or within 90 days of employment)
  • Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman or EPA certification

The shift involves morning hours from Monday to Friday, with emergency on-call responsibilities.
